I think we used it to go out to dinner to celebrate. It needs to be pretty clear since it is for a Graduate College Application. It was only one, they didn’t even have runners up, I think. Using those terms for a thesis would just be confusing, in my opinion. Criteria include selection of demanding and topical areas of study, original and creative development of data gathering and data analysis, and the combination of precision, clarity and eloquence in the thesis text.
I’m guessing if it gets recommended by the thesis committee?
